- Anvilicious: Its War Is Hell messaging. It's still rather effective, though.
- Awesome Music: Hector Berlioz's "Requiem, Op. 5: Sanctus" which plays during Mickey's death scene.
- Fan Nickname: Mickey Mouse in Vietnam is actually the fan name. The official name is the incredibly vague Short Subject.
- Narm Charm: The crude animation and the use of Mickey Mouse to give a message about the horrors of war sounds like a cheesy concept, but it's no less heartbreaking to see Mickey get shot on-screen and then dying.
- Spiritual Successor: To Mickey Mouse at Gurs Internment Camp, a French comic book drawn by an inmate at the Gurs internment camp during The Holocaust.
- Nightmare Fuel: The ending, where poor Mickey is shot to death moments after arriving in Vietnam, and as if that wasn't enough, the camera then zooms in on his dead face and his smile slowly turns into a frown.
- Tear Jerker: If you love Mickey Mouse, then watching this short is not recommended.
- Values Resonance: The glorification of war through advertisements compared to what really goes on once you join said war is a message that remains evergreen.
- What Do You Mean, It's Not for Kids?: Yes, it stars Mickey Mouse, but it's not for kids. It features him getting shot in the head with blood dripping out.
