YMMV / Lost River

  • Awesome Music: Courtesy of Johnny Jewel, who was part of Chromatics (of which some of their music appeared in Drive). It’s a rather haunting series of synths that captures the neon-nightmare atmosphere of the story.
  • Catharsis Factor: After spending most of the film threatening to kill Bones and after murdering Rat’s pet Nick, Bully’s death is satisfying to witness.
  • Complete Monster: Bully is a feared thug who controls the town, allowing it to degrade and ruin plenty of lives as more and more houses of the poor and unfortunate are foreclosed on. Bully spreads fear amongst the town by carving out people's lips, including a small child's, even doing so to his henchman Face after he fails to stop Bones from stealing his car parts. Hunting down Bones, Bully decapitates Bones's neighbor Rat's pet rat Nick to make her stay away from him, and has Rat's house set on fire to kill her, her grandma, and Bones's little brother Franky.
  • Critical Backlash: When you stop to take a look at it, Lost River has some things going for it. It has a rather loose plot, sure, but it does boast some absolutely stunning imagery and an unique atmospheric score. The performances are also well done, too. It’s not well known enough nor positively seen to be considered a cult classic though.
  • So Okay, It's Average: That being said, its story is what pulls the film down. If you can overlook it, it's definitely a visually appealing work to gawk at.
