YMMV / Les Tuniques Bleues

  • Fair for Its Day: Early albums are quite stereotypical in their portrayals of women and (in a few) homosexuals. The former are cleaning obsessed and demure and the latter are Camp Gay Abhorrent Admirers. Still, this is Played for Laughs and they remain well-rounded characters with many likable traits, always essential to the plot.
  • Ho Yay: Between Blutch and Chesterfield, frequently even lampshaded. At one point Blutch even threatens to have Chesterfield court-martialled for rape.
  • Like You Would Really Do It: Blutch's death in Requiem for a blue.
  • Moral Event Horizon: Chesterfield is usually depicted as horribly naive with regards to the war and his superiors intentions but actually well meaning. He goes off the deep end in Les Bleus tournent cosaques when he starves a group of hapless immigrants into enlisting in the cavalry with sadistic glee on his face. Later he sends them off to the frontline without any training whatsoever claiming he's Just Following Orders when called out on the fact that this will get them slaughtered.
  • What Do You Mean, It's Not Political?: One story depicts a bigoted and racist officer named Nepel, which is Le Pen spelled backwards (Le Pen was, for a long time, the leader of Front National, a far-right French party). Contrary to his inspiration, he is quite insistant about not being racist, having even lost his eye fighting for Indians, but thinks people should stick to "where they belong to".
