YMMV / Legends of Tomorrow S2E7 "Invasion!"

Go To

  • Ass Pull: The episode puts to bed much of the guilt and blame Barry was experiencing over Flashpoint, but to do so, it stretches quite a bit of credibility. It can be quite glaring for viewers who themselves were still mad at Barry for what he did or found him too Easily Forgiven by the narrative for what he did.
    • The aforementioned incident with Cisco is rather poorly executed. Cisco makes an accidental, completely benign change to history while with the Legends on a Waverider, and somehow comes to see how Barry wasn't at fault for Flashpoint because of how easily one can mess with time. He seemingly forgets that Barry intentionally changed time and caused far more drastic developments as a result, yet Cisco somehow sees this as similar and instantly forgives Barry.
    • Diggle, having found out two episodes ago that Barry's changes to history meant he lost a daughter he now no longer remembers, and was devastated by the news, decides off-screen that it's no big deal and he forgives Barry. It comes off as extremely out-of-character for Diggle, who is already explicitly not a fan of the crazier sci-fi and superpowered shenanigans they get up to now, and has a tendency to bare grudges when things affect his family (and was never shown to be particularly fond of Barry anyway). Especially as, when he found out, Diggle looked distraught and confused, his sudden chill attitude to what should have been severely damaging to his sense of reality comes out of nowhere.
    • Beyond that, the reveal that the Dominators' invasion was motivated by them somehow knowing about Flashpoint (and the US government knowing, too), which wasn't at all hinted at in the previous two episodes and is never explained how they knew about it.
  • Broken Base: Barry being forgiven for Flashpoint during this episode. For some it was a relief due to being tired of the Conflict Ball that it was becoming, and are happy the heroes can just move on already. Others however feel Barry was too Easily Forgiven by the other characters using flimsy logic to absolve him of guilt, and making the Dominators' motivation literally be to punish Barry felt like they were demonising anyone who held a grudge. What's not helping matters either way is the fact that the former felt like the Legends especially had no leg to stand on because of Sara's brief quest to do pretty much the same thing he did, while many of the latter are comic fans who are still mad about the original Flashpoint and how Barry in the comics never faced any form of scrutiny for it until Rebirth.
  • Catharsis Factor: Cisco finally forgives Barry and calls him his friend again. What prompts him to do this? Doing the exact same thing he was mad at Barry for doing: altering time.
  • Fridge Brilliance:
    • Thea off-screen deciding not to continue the fight with the others makes sense, considering in the Arrow crossover episode, she almost stayed in the virtual world where her parents are still alive and she was probably still feeling emotional from the experience.
    • Oliver's sudden distrust in Kara could also be tied to his experience in the virtual world, and also that before he was abducted, Kara almost killed him, Barry, and Wally when she was brainwashed along with the others. This along with the fact she is completely indestructible and a complete stranger to him made him wary of her.
    • Barry not attempting to reach out to Iris and Joe when he was about to sacrifice himself could be because he didn't want them to try and talk him out of it, as they more than the others would have been able to convince him. Saying goodbye to them would have also made the decision harder.
  • Portmanteau Couple Name: Skirtwave, as Kara and Rory shippers were born after Heat Wave's "Hey Skirt, call me" line near the end of the episode.
  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Character: A couple of examples:
    • Iris's job is to report on things going on in Central City, and yet during the scene where all of the reporters are gathered in a press conference held by the new President, she is nowhere to be found. Fans are particularly irate because this is the third crossover in a row where Iris hasn't been involved outside of the Flash episode.
    • Moreover, lots of fans are confused as to why characters from the other shows seem to be more involved than the Legends are, with the episode ending on Barry and Oliver; the Legends are mostly used as supporting characters for them.
    • The members of Team Flash and Arrow who don't appear in this episode and helped out in the last two, not being at the victory party at the end. Specifically Iris and Joe not being there when Barry attempted to sacrifice himself to the Dominators.
  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Plot: Nothing came of the President's intention to create a DEO-like organization on Earth-1.
  • WTH, Costuming Department?: In-universe, Mick points out that Nate looks like a star-spangled idiot in his new outfit. It's especially odd seeing as Ray could have used the extra material to upgrade his or the other Legends' gear (or possibly the Waverider), and Nate is already invincible.
