YMMV / Hulk (2021)

Go To

  • Designated Hero: It is extremely hard to root for Banner at all when, keeping in mind the prior run, he locks up the Savage Hulk (an actual child) in his mind palace and throws threat after threat at him for his own gain. Then again, this might be the point, as Strange posits the Hulk is there to protect them from Banner's unchecked ambition.
  • It's the Same, Now It Sucks!: Teases of the new Black Hulk, Titan, have struck people as remarkably reminiscent of Knull from Cates’s Venom run, a comparison Marvel has leaned into in advertising. This has rubbed some readers off the wrong way, feeling like a blatant retread of recent events, especially given Knull had practically taken over nearly every book Cates was involved in. Not helping this perception is the fact that the character literally just finished an extensive arc dealing with The One Below All trying to seize control of their body, making this a retread twice over.
  • They Changed It, Now It Sucks!: With Immortal Hulk considered a defining run on the character, any writer who followed it up would invariably be struck with this, but even so, Cates’s seeming disregard for the events of the previous run has proven remarkably controversial, with many readers crying foul. Specifically, that series saw Bruce Banner come to terms with his Hulk personas and learn to coexist with them in a peaceful way. This series sees him locking the Savage Hulk persona, established in Immortal Hulk to be an actual child, up in his mind palace and throwing threat after threat at him.
