YMMV / Gogo's Crazy Bones

Go To

  • Archive Panic: The entire toyline, including both the original 90's incarnation and the 2007 reboot, comprises literally over 1,000 characters to collect. We hope you have plenty of money to spend if you try to collect all of the characters across all of the sets; this goes double if you're aiming to find all the characters' color variations (which is outright impossible for the 90's Gogos since they don't have color restrictions).
  • Broken Base: Which series is better? The 90's incarnation or the 2007 reboot? It really depends on which one you've grown up with.
  • Ensemble Dark Horse:
    • Fist from Series 1 is one of the most popular Gogos, thanks to his unique design, to the point that he is among the Superstars.
    • If what the Superstar series suggests is to be taken seriously (the TV commercial for that series says "The most famous Gogos are back with a big difference!"), all of the Gogos chosen to be in that series are ensemble darkhorses. The presence of Mosh in that series is easily understandable given he's the series mascot, but then the rest of the Superstar roster consists of characters which may or may not get nearly as much promotion as he does.
  • Germans Love David Hasselhoff:
    • South Africans were rather fond of Gogo's when they came out in that country. In December 2009, a South African newspaper reported that Gogo's were the top gift for boys of 6 to 8 years old.
    • This crosses over with Ensemble Dark Horse in the case of Sharkey from the Buddies set. This character was very popular in Europe due to how rare he was there; the European Buddies packs lampshaded how rare he was by having text saying stuff like "Have you found Sharkey?" on them.
  • Periphery Demographic: Adults are known to love collecting Crazy Bones, both the 90's and 2000's versions, just as much as children would love to collect and play with them.
  • The Problem with Licensed Games: The DS game is nothing more than an Angry Birds rip-off. Common Sense Media even pointed this out in their review of the game.
  • Spiritual Successor: In 2016, Magic Box Int. released a collectible toy series called Star Monsters that can be seen as a spiritual successor to Gogo's Crazy Bones. For starters, both are series of collectible plastic figures that come with stickers, and both have associated sticker albums.note
  • They Changed It, Now It Sucks!: The TV show used completely new characters as main characters, which made plenty of fans mad. You know something's wrong when they didn't even bother to make Mosh the show's main character, which says quite a bit considering he's the mascot of the series.
  • Tough Act to Follow:
    • Gogo's Crazy Bones Evolution (Series 2) couldn't live up to the success of Series 1, considering that they're essentially the same models as the first series but with different tattoo designs.
    • None of the other collectible toy series which Magic Box has made throughout the years (e.g. Flick-to-Stick Bungees, Star Monsters, etc.) have come even close to the popularity of Gogo's Crazy Bones.
  • Viewer Gender Confusion: There are very few Gogos who are clearly female, so for the ones that don't have their gender specified (which is most of them, by the way!) and have feminine features, it's up to one's imagination to figure it out.
