- Awesome Music: "Al Rescate, Amigos". The flute enchants the melody so well that some viewers prefer it over the theme song.
- Character Shilling: More like species-shilling, but this show really wants you to believe that llamas are the strongest animals in the world, for some reason.
- Common Knowledge: Dora is Diego's cousin, not his girlfriend or his sister.
- Growing the Beard: The early episodes follow the same structure and feel of Dora the Explorer complete with a GPS that gives three destinations to travel through. However, the show eventually started varying the plot and growing more independent of its predecessor.
- Incest Yay Shipping: Diego is sometimes shipped with his cousin Dora by kids and adults who are unaware that the two are related. It's gotten to the point where a Google search for "Who is Dora's boyfriend" will show you the results of Diego.
- Periphery Demographic: A sizable number of older viewers credit the show with teaching them about different animals. It's also less infamous than its parent show, Dora the Explorer.
