YMMV / Finding Prince Charming

Go To

  • Base-Breaking Character: Robert himself. Some fans find him to be a genuine Mr. Fanservice and a nice guy looking for love, others tend to find him bland and even a bit douchey, not sure why so many suitors seem to pining for him (and to be fair, a number of suitors actually do leave the show because they don't hit it off with him). This only gets worst when Robert's then-undisclosed past regarding his work as a male escort and even pornography of him being leaked online. Some (fans and suitors, included) are fine with this, and accept this as a part of Robert's past that he has moved on from. Others, however, point out that Robert never discloses his lurid past with the men he's trying to make a connection with (which can be seen as hypocritical, since of course suitors are expected to be honest and up-front with him and have to pass a rigorous background check before being accepted), not to mention being associated with someone who sold himself for sex can have very bad consequences in real lifenote .
  • Broken Base: Whether the show was ultimately a positive step forward for the LGBT community, or an embarrassing step backwards.
  • Fan Nickname: The show is often referred to as The Gay Bachelor.
  • The Woobie: Nick may qualify, he's almost the textbook definition of a Dogged Nice Guy, a sweet man in his early 30's who hasn't had a date in six years, yet is holding out hope the show may be his ticket to romance. He gets humiliated the first day when one of the other roommates attempted to paint abs on him and it comes out looking incredibly goofy, he is incredibly shy and embarrassed when meeting Robert, and ends up getting eliminated in the first episode. The poor guy just could not catch a break!
