YMMV / DuckTales (2017) S2 E21 "Timephoon!"

  • Accidental Aesop: Sometimes the people who call you out on your mistakes know what they're talking about because they committed the very same mistake, and thus know how devastating it can be. Louie might've done something as reckless as Della did in the past, but because she's seen what damage stealing the Spear of Selene caused, she knows Louie has to understand now that what he did was wrong and see that his actions have consequences.
  • Alternative Character Interpretation: Was Beakley's anger at Louie's remark against Della because she thought it was an uncalled for cheap shot, or was she disgusted he was trying to avoid punishment by using Della's actions against her?
  • Angst? What Angst?: Played for Laughs with Launchpad, who apparently witnessed the end of the world, but was nothing but chipper about his experiences.
  • Catharsis Factor: Seeing Della finally punish Louie for his greed is quite satisfying to many fans. On the flipside, fans who thought Della had gotten off way too easily for the Spear of Selene incident were quite satisfied to see that someone in the family (Louie) hasn't fully forgiven and forgotten yet, so this goes both ways.
  • Crazy Is Cool: Bubba, with how quickly he adapts to the modern day, while proving himself every bit as thrill seeking as his descendants.
  • Fanfic Fuel: Just the accounts of the rest of the cast when they were sent back in time.
  • Genius Bonus: Huey's made-up cave-duck language which consists of only grunting is based on the misconception that "cavemen" spoke this way. It's natural that Bubba, who has a more complex language (as it is believed to have been the case with real prehistoric people), would not understand it.
  • I Knew It!: Some viewers suspected this would be the episode where Della would learn how to discipline her child, with said child being Louie.
  • Informed Wrongness: Huey refusing to believe Bubba's behavior despite seeing it before his eyes is portrayed as wrong, but its hard to call him out since cavemen or in this case, caveducks didn't have access to chili dogs, skateboards, and keytars. Bubba was only able to interact with these things because he unwittingly time traveled to an era that had these things. Not only that, but any research he would have had before meeting Bubba would only have been guesswork at best, since all of his research would have been collected long after caveducks have died out.
  • Misaimed Fandom: The fan reactions to Louie getting punished by Della. Both sides made valid points (Della saying that Louie shouldn't just get off scot-free for nearly destroying time, Louie pointing out Della's Parental Hypocrisy) and neither was meant to be seen as solely right or wrong, per Word of God; however, many fans seem to have missed that completely, painting either Louie or Della as being completely in the wrong in that argument based largely around which character they like more.
  • Rescued from the Scrappy Heap:
    • Bubba was a fairly unpopular addition to the cast in the original series. In this episode he's consistently hilarious and the fact that he willingly returns to his time ensures that he didn't wear out his welcome. The Reveal that he is the first McDuck further added to this.
    • Likewise, the reboot's version of Tootsie is better received than the original, mainly because she is now more like a real dinosaur and has a badass design appropriate for a Triceratops.
