• Narm: The Black Guardian's incredibly hammy Evil Laugh goes too far into cartoonish territory to take seriously (literally going "Nyeeeaheheheheh!"). Notably, said laugh is deleted from the "special edition" on the DVD, with the scene instead just ending with the Guardian throwing Turlough to the deck.
• Retroactive Recognition: Gorillaz fans will recognize Leee John (Mansell) as the guest vocalist on "The Lost Chord".
• Special Effects Failure: There's the scene where Turlough gets rescued after throwing himself overboard. Cue yellowscreen background of a ship with Mark Strickson hanging from wires in front of it while a net is brought over to scoop him up. Fortunately, many of the bad special effects were fixed when a special remade version was released on DVD along with the original televised story.
• Visual Effects of Awesome: The sailing ships in space. A common criticism of the Special Edition was that replacing the beautiful handmade models wholesale with mid-budget CGI was rather a shame.
