• Aluminum Christmas Trees: Powwow (or Braucheri) is a real system of folk beliefs practiced among the Pennsylvania Dutch. Also, all of the books in Le Horn's collection actually exist (although the Dæmonolatreia is not a book of spells, as the novel implies, but is a manual for hunting and prosecuting witches, similar to the Malleus Maleficarum.)
• Complete Monster: Hylinus the Satyr is the son of Nodens and a rapist who uses his spell to bewitch women. Having been summoned by Nelson LeHorn to assist with the crops, Hylinus brainwashed and raped Nelson's wife and daughters before being sealed off. Reappearing before writer Adam Senft in the modern day, Hylinu proceeds to bewitch and rape every woman he can, sometimes having their husbands murdered as offerings or solely for being in his way.
• The Woobie: Adam. Let's see...Blames himself for being unable to somehow prevent his wife's miscarriage, check. Is wrongfully made a suspect in a string of disappearances, check. Witnesses something that his brain tells him is completely impossible and freaks out over it, check. Tries his best to protect his wife only to have her and a slew of other women hypnotized and raped, check. Hears said wife taunt him about being unable to satisfy her, and claim he was to blame for her miscarriages because his "seed was weak," check. Witnesses his best friends and faithful dog get murdered in front of him by an ancient deity, check. Finally, after all of it, finds out that his wife is pregnant, but its the satyr's baby, check.
