YMMV / Daddy Yankee

Go To

  • Americans Hate Tingle:
    • While Yankee has scored many hits worldwide including five US Top 40 hits, his only songs to chart at all in the UK are "Gasolina", "Despacito", and "Con Calma", the former two being his only top 40 hits.
    • His albums Mundial and Prestige were commercial successes in Latin America and Spain, comparable to some previous albums, but in the US they only sold around 50,000 copies each despite good reviews.
    • His film Talento de Barrio received positive reviews in the Dominican Republic and its native Puerto Rico, but received negative reviews in the US, garnering a 0% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
  • Awesome Music:
    • Barrio Fino: "Gasolina", "Lo Que Pasó Pasó", "No Me Dejes Solo", "King Daddy", "Dale Caliente", "Tu Príncipe", and "Salud y Vida".
    • Barrio Fino en Directo: "Rompe", "Machucando", and "Gangsta Zone".
    • El Cartel: The Big Boss: "Impacto" (both the original and the remix) and "Ella Me Levantó".
    • Talento de Barrio: "Somos De Calle" (both the original and the remix), "Pose", "Llamado De Emergencia", "Qué Tengo Que Hacer", "Salgo Pa La Calle", "La Fuga", and "No Es Culpa Mía".
    • Mundial: "El Ritmo No Perdona", "Descontrol", and "La Despedida".
    • Prestige: "Ven Conmigo", "Llegamos A La Disco", "Lovumba", "Pasarela", "Limbo", "Perros Salvajes", and "El Amante".
    • King Daddy: "La Nueva y La Ex".
    • Legendaddy: "Rumbatón", "X Última Vez", and "Bombón".
    • Non-album singles: "Sábado Rebelde", "Sígueme y Te Sigo", "Vaivén", "Shaky Shaky", "La Rompe Corazones", "Vuelve", "Dura", "Adictiva", "Con Calma", "Si Supieras", and "Que Tire Pa Lante".
  • Broken Base:
    • Some of his later albums get this, most notably El Cartel: The Big Boss and Mundial. Did they explore newer and more traditional rhythms, or deviate from the reggaeton formula too much?
    • Legendaddy is either praised as a satisfying sendoff to the Big Boss' career thanks to its blend of classic and contemporary tracks, or criticized for being nostalgia-reliant and wasting the opportunity to reunite classic reggaeton artists such as Don Omar, Wisin & Yandel, and Nicky Jam.
  • Even Better Sequel: El Cangri.com was Yankee's first commercially successful album, but it was followed by Barrio Fino, which immortalized the reggaeton industry as a whole.
  • Germans Love David Hasselhoff: The DVD for the Talento de Barrio film was a huge best-seller in Central America, especially in El Salvador.
  • Signature Song: "Gasolina" without a doubt, to the point of often being regarded as one for all of reggaeton.
