YMMV / Colin From Accounts

Go To

  • Jerkass Woobie: Ashley brings a lot of her grief upon herself, but during her birthday Ashley's mother reveals the time one of her friends died on a previous birthday and she was unable to save him. Combine this with her recent breakup plus her Disappeared Dad and it's implied her moments of irresponsibility might be a cry for help.
  • Nausea Fuel:
    • She might look dainty, but Ashley takes a pretty audible crap. When she finds out the water's been turned off, she throws the turd out the window where it lands on the footpath.
    • Ashely sleepwalks into Gordon's bedroom and pisses in his nightstand.
    • "I think I over-trusted a fart!"
  • Spiritual Adaptation: An unlikely romance forms between a surly man and a flighty woman as they adopt a scruffy little dog named "Colin". It's essentially an Australian remake of Spaced.
  • Squick: That creepy guy Ashley's mother dated. While he doesn't do anything too horrifying, his unblinking fixation on Ashley and his assortment of habits and choice of words makes it really diffcult to write it off as coincidence.
  • Tear Dryer: After a bitter breakup followed by having to give Colin away, Gordon and Ashley admit that they don't want anything to change and get back together, with their first order of business being to steal Colin back from his negligent new owners. Gordon's evil grin when he thinks of making a spoiled child cry allows the first series to end on a laugh.
  • Tear Jerker:
    • Ashley's best friend is dealing with her grandmother's imminent death. When she does pass on, her son arrives only to find out he was seconds too late to be there in her final moments.
    • Ashley's birthday party is a complete disaster. Her friends make a mess of the bar which leads to Ashley and Gordon fighting in the streets. The two break up and Ashely storms off, the cherry on top being her father only just remembering to wish her a happy birthday by voicemail.
    • After their breakup and giving away Colin, Gordon drops Ashley off at her mum's with the implication they'll never see each other again. Ashley overhears Gordon crying loudly and sheds a few tears alongside him.
  • The Woobie: Colin From Accounts. The first episode confirms he'll be disabled for life and he requires extra attention. The finale confirms that his original owner didn't even want him and any attempt to find him a new home goes terribly as nobody treats the poor dog like a living thing with his own needs. When Gordon and Ashley reluctantly leave him with a yuppie family whose 4-year-old treats Colin like a toy, he gives them a visibly pleading look as they walk out the door.
