- Hilarious in Hindsight: Rose is the only main character to die. The actor Herta Ware actually outlived most of their co-stars.
- Sequelitis: Most viewers and critics saw Cocoon: The Return as a completely unnecessary and uninspired sequel that added little to the original story.
- Signature Scene: The film is best known for Don Ameche breakdancing to a Michael Sembello song.
- Tear Jerker: Oh Lord, where to begin? Start with Walter crying for the first time when one of his fellow crew members dies. Add Rose passing away, and Bernie completely breaking down. Then there's Ben's conversation with his grandson... "We'll never be sick, we won't get any older, and we won't ever die," ending with Ben hugging David goodbye. Finally, the final shot, of the Antarean spaceship, with its new passengers, going to a new adventure... but this time they're Tears of Joy.
