- Big-Lipped Alligator Moment: Squidward when he says, "His favorite underpayants!" and grows buckteeth when he does. This comes from out of nowhere and never gets explained. However, even knowing what he knows about SpongeBob, it's for the better we don't know that part of the latter.
- Crosses the Line Twice:
- Squidward takes a picture of a sad SpongeBob and then mocks him and rubs his misery in his face while a picture of a donkey fades in over Squidward.
- SpongeBob sadly taking down his Christmas decorations when Santa is a no-show? Heartbreaking. Him grabbing a single strand of lights from his elaborately decorated house, sadly sliding down the exterior, and declaring the job done while a Personal Raincloud shows up above him? It's hard not to laugh at the absurdity of it.
- Fanon: Many fans like to guess that the photo Squidward takes of SpongeBob when he's at his lowest was "the embarrassing snapshot from the Christmas party" Patrick has in "The Secret Box". This is supported by the fact that none of the characters in the beginning of the episode, barring Sandy, have ever heard of Christmas, which they do in "The Secret Box".
- Fridge Brilliance: Legend dictates that Santa only comes while everyone is asleep. What is everyone in Bikini Bottom doing the night of Christmas Eve when Santa doesn't arrive? Staying awake to try and meet him.
- Memetic Mutation:
