  • Broken Base: Half the fandom finds this one of the worst episodes ever. The other half finds it one of the most hilarious episodes in the series.
  • Common Knowledge: This episode wreaks havoc with the continuity by having Penny and Patty be much younger than they should be in the 60s flashbacks? Wrong but only if you go by the manual. Penny's official birthdate is 1930, which would make her 37 in this episode, and the actress they cast to play her was only a couple of years younger than that. Patty's birthdate is 1950, meaning she's 17, and thus it's perfectly plausible for her to be dropped off at Alan's sister's for the night.
  • Jerkass Woobie: This episode firmly establishes Penny as one. She was a bossy, acid-tongued disciplinarian who clearly was tough to grow up with, but the flashbacks to her youth show that she was very idealistic and believed in a pacifist world until her best friend betrayed her and got her husband killed. The scene of past!Penny weeping over Allen's body is especially heart breaking.
  • Never Live It Down: Penny's rant that "men are utensils" is often held against her by her detractors.
  • No Yay: This episode has a past version of Leo hit on Paige, who's his sister-in-law in the present. She herself is Squicked out, especially when he doesn't seem to take no for an answer. Upon returning to the present, Leo is extremely embarrassed by his past behavior.
