YMMV / Buddy Simulator 1984

Go To

  • Game-Breaker: Bean is crazy powerful. His basic attack does a bare minimum of 15 damage (most others do anywhere from 8-12), and if given the Coin that jumps up to 21 damage. Partner him with a townsperson that can buff him, like Cauldron, and even the Snoodlewonker becomes a breeze.
  • Moral Event Horizon: All sympathy you may have for your buddy quickly evaporates when it forces you to kill your dog.
  • Spiritual Adaptation: The game shares many major thematic, character, story, and aesthetic elements with other meta Indie Games such as Undertale, Doki Doki Literature Club!, Pony Island, and Imscared, just to list some recognizable titles.
  • Slow-Paced Beginning: The game's start is widely considered the worst part of the game, requiring you to play boring minigames and then go through a somewhat clunky, limited text adventure. Once you beat the text adventure part, the game opens up, changing to a top-down adventure, and it becomes much more interesting.
  • That One Boss: Captain Chunk hits like a truck, strikes multiple party members, and his attacks can be difficult to block due to some funky timings. If you haven't mastered the battle system at this point, you're in for a rough time. Your buddy even acknowledges that he doesn't really fit well with the game's difficulty curve.
