  • Alternative Character Interpretation: Is Darryl really such an innocent Nice Guy?
    • When he got the key to the city, instead of thanking his brother who shared his tragedy and saved him from being killed in his first outing he thanked his Love Interest.
    • Throughout the movie Darryl tried to convince his brother, Kevin, to be his sidekick, ultimately guilt tripping him into doing it. Yet, despite leading his brother into this extremely dangerous endeavor, he never bothered to make his suit bulletproof.
      • Given how his brother can be a jerkass to him, sometimes, some of Darryl's pettiness towards him is deserved.
  • Cult Classic: While the film flopped commercially and was reviewed poorly by critics when it was released. The movie gained more positive attention through reruns in tv and video releases. Nowadays, it’s viewed as a lighthearted deconstruction of the superhero genre.
  • Fridge Brilliance:
    • Kevin taking karate classes makes a lot of sense. After all He does live in a crime ridden neighborhood, so it makes sense he would seek training in order to defend himself and his family.
    • Darryl’s glasses having several adjustments to them (most notably having a fork in place of one of its hinges.) can be passed off as evidence of his geeky qualities. However, given that it is heavily implied that He and his family live in a poor neighborhood, it’s likely that Darryl simply didn’t have enough money to buy a replacement and had to resort to using his intelligence to work with what he had.
  • Fridge Logic: Why didn’t they just throw the bag of explosives down the hole?
  • Memetic Mutation: "Slap me around and call me Susan!" (Cue Screams Like a Little Girl)
  • Older Than They Think: A lot of people think Kick-Ass was the first movie to focus on super-heroes in reality aspect. But this film beat it to the punch first.
  • Tear Jerker: One surprisingly moving scene: just before Mayor Harris' death, Darryl briefly unmasks to tell him "Eleanor Walker was my grandmother. She really believed in you."
Harris: She was a good woman. I'll give her your love.
    • Darryl sobs so hard during his grandmother's funeral that you can't help but cry along with him.
    • Despite the Narm, J-5's "dying" moment after the bomb goes off is surprisingly moving.
    • The entire reason Darryl becomes Blank Man was due to him crossing the Despair Event Horizon.
