YMMV / Bill Nye Saves the World

Go To

  • Base-Breaking Character: Bill Nye himself has become this. Is he every bit as energetic and endearing as he was in his original show? Or has he forgotten what made his original persona fun and now just comes across as condescending? Bill's often passive-aggressive talks with his guests has certainly not helped.
  • Big-Lipped Alligator Moment: At one point in the already bizarre "My Sex Junk" musical number (see below) a Bollywood Nerd comes on stage and delivers the brain-melting question "Did you learn gay in college?" before taking off his pants and dancing around in his boxers.
  • Broken Base:
    • While some people appreciate that Bill is covering some hot topics in this show, others think that the show gets too political for its own good.
    • Politics aside, while some see it as generally inferior to its predecessor, others are glad to see Bill Nye has finally returnednote .
    • The format of the show. Some don't mind that it takes place on a stage in front of a live audience, while others prefer the format of the original show.
  • Don't Shoot the Message: One of the biggest issues many take with the show is how much it botches the messages it tries to push. Most infamous is when it tries to preach pro-LGBTQ+ morals, where any good statements it has it ends up getting lost in a plethora of nonsense with no scientific bearing and confusing muddled messages.
    • The speech about how people need to stop pushing Eastern holistic medicine over actual scientific medicine, which is a perfectly good message, but it falls apart when it's couched in "Just because white people are stupid enough to fall for it doesn't mean you should take advantage of their stupidity" sentiments.
  • Signature Scene: The song "My Sex Junk" quickly became the first thing to come to mind when anyone mentions this show, and that's not a good thing. It's so bad that not even the show's supporters are willing to defend this song. It was still nominated for an Emmy, hopefully as a joke.
