  • Captain Obvious Reveal:
    • Episode 3 has a famous painting being robbed while Terence Witham is (understandably upset) about the police detail completely messing up by leaving the room, blaming Kelby. The issue is that The Reveal that the artist made a special frame to hide the painting, while not obvious by itself, is rather undermined by Withams' irritableness in getting the painting back and wanting to leave Shipton-Abbot. Every other suspect was either too obvious or had an alibi.
    • Episode 6 is really bad for this. While Humphrey being out of the loop makes sense, given him and Martha had broken up the prior episode and is not quite in the right headspace for investigating the case properly, the rest of the team not working out that Ellie's lawyer and partner, Kate, was responsible, is really baffling. Not only do they have the means to cover up stealing the ring by copying an M.O of a past home robber, but also smart enough to cover her tracks by stealing other things too, but this isn't put together until Humphrey returns and does so. The fact that Ellie has an alibi of being arrested is the one wrinkle in the case, but it strange that it didn't ring alarm bells that she was being over-protective, and is clearly hiding something (something which the audience is implicitly told after the first interview).
  • Unexpected Character: Few expected that the series would take a detour to Saint Marie and that Humphrey and Martha would spend time with the then-current cast of Death in Paradise.
