YMMV / Better Call Saul S6 E9: "Fun and Games"

  • Alternative Character Interpretation:
    • Whether Kim actually lied about Lalo not for protection but because she needed the fun with Jimmy; whether it's just her self-hatred colouring her view of things, or if it's a misguided attempt to try and soften the blow of her leaving.
    • Did Eladio believe Gus was innocent of killing Lalo? Or did he just deem it not worth pursuing due to Gus' usefulness, the lack of actual evidence against him, and/or a lack of concern for the Salamancas? He does note that Gus' hatred of him hasn't gone unnoticed and warns him to stay in line, so he's not completely oblivious. But, he also has a history of underestimating Gus that we know will ultimately be his undoing, so it could go either way.
    • There is a level of interpretation for whether Manuel's parting words to Mike are what finally pushed him to become the ruthless asshole he is in Breaking Bad; many fans have noted despite already being a criminal and willing to be cold, Mike in this series demonstrates a level of empathy and remorse notably not seen in the former series, where he is utterly merciless and openly jerkish. After Manuel derisively dismisses him as merely another gangster and tears down his beliefs, an already hurt Mike is noticeably taken aback even further before the show segues to the Breaking Bad timeline. This indicates this could be where he broke bad himself, fully taking those words to heart and embracing his lot in life as a criminal.
  • Harsher in Hindsight: Bob Odenkirk had a heart attack during filming of the previous episode "Point and Shoot." When Odenkirk returned to action, instead of finishing off scenes from that episode, he began work on scenes from "Fun and Games." So, before being involved in an episode where Saul's heart was being metaphorically broken by Kim's departure, the actor was recovering from having his heart literally broken.
