YMMV / ALAMAT

Go To

  • Awesome Music: ALAMAT’s songs are rich in vocal harmonies, seamlessly blend different languages together, and incorporate the wonderful sounds of traditional Filipino instruments.
  • Friendly Fandoms:
    • Magiliws are friendly with YOUN1Ts, fans of the Indonesian boy band UN1TY. Mostly because the two groups covered each other’s songs and because Southeast Asians want to support their fellow Southeast Asians. Some Magiliws even noted that the UN1TY members also hail from different ethnic groups in Indonesia, making ALAMAT and UN1TY each other’s Transatlantic Equivalent.
    • Blooms (fans of the Filipino girl group BINI) and Magiliws are also very friendly with each other. In fact, BINI's official brother group is BGYO and ALAMAT's official sister group is LITZ, but the high number of "Binilat"note  fans prefer to see them as each other's sibling groups. The main reasons are that both groups have multilingual, multiethnic membersnote  and that fans consider their discographies to be on a similar level in terms of caliber. (It probably also helps that for the majority of their debut year 2021, they both consisted of 8 members.) But the friendship between the members of the two groups helps, as well as their collab during Tugatog Music Festival 2022 that went viral even before it was actually performed, where BINI's "Na Na Na" was covered by ALAMAT, and in turn their song "kbye" was sung by BINI, as they mashed up their songs together.
      • Aside from BINI Jhoanna playing the female lead in the "Maharani" music video, in one of the "Making Of" videos for the song, she directly shouts out "Go Binilat!"
  • Ho Yay: Their choreo has its moments. Two standout Ho Yay choreo moments both feature Taneo, which is perhaps not an accident considering the fact that he’s 1/2 of “JaNeo” (Jao/Taneo), among the most popular RPF ships for ALAMAT since early days.
    • In “Say U Love Me,” Alas sings about how he caught his lover embracing other guys. The choreo represents this by having Taneo embrace him from behind as Alas glances at him.
    • In choreo for “Aswang,” Taneo mimes sucking the blood from R-Ji’s neck. But it looks very much like an Almost Kiss, especially because it involves them leaning slowly towards each other and Taneo pulling him by the shirt.
  • Most Wonderful Sound: Their harmonies are always pleasing to the ear, but the live harmonizing Tomas consistently does all throughout their Unplugged Version performances are especially incredible.
  • Overshadowed by Controversy:
    • Controversy threatened to plague their debut thanks to an ill-advised quote in their press kit, which described ALAMAT as “counter K-Pop.” But people got over it quickly enough. For what it’s worth, their creative director acknowledges that K-Pop is a massive influence on ALAMAT, and some of the members themselves are big K-Pop fans.
    • The “kasmala” era is rife with controversies, mostly in relation to the management’s alleged unprofessional behavior, objectification of the boys, and hostility towards fans. The hashtag #FreeALAMAT, calling for ALAMAT to be “freed” from their management, even trended #1 in the Philippines on September 8, 2021, surpassing all of the other P-Pop bands’ trending topics that day (such as BINI ON LAZADA SUPERSHOW and BGYO NO2 ON NBS).
  • Suspiciously Similar Song: Valfer's first release after leaving ALAMAT, "Sumpa", sounds uncannily similar to ALAMAT's song "Gayuma." Apparently "Gayuma" was almost entirely written by the boys themselves, and there's also the fact that both the group and Valfer are still technically under Viva Records, so one can only speculate on how this came about.
  • What Do You Mean, It's Not for Kids?: Their releases tend to oscillate between Hotter and Sexier and Tamer and Chaster. They've got a lot of kid-friendly releases, but it wouldn't be advisable to let children check out their whole discography without supervision.
