What Could Have Been / Donkey Hodie

Go To

  • According to this Variety article, the show was supposed to be animated, going as far to have designs created for the characters. This was scrapped when the creators believed puppets would convey what they were going for better than animation would.
  • Instead of having no in-between episodes segment, the show was supposed to have one. It's unknown what this was supposed to be about.
  • One part in the "Meet Donkey Hodie!" book was supposed to be different from the final product. Donkey was supposed to call her friend Harriett an "udderly adorable pal of hers" and comment that she is a terrible singer, but nobody admits that to her and that everyone in Someplace Else loves her. In addition, the facts that she is a scientist, musician and poet were ommitted. The final book has Donkey describe her by describing her dress, and her comment on her is instead replaced with one about her inventions and the advice she gives to her and her friends.
  • An image exists featuring a different-looking Donkey Hodie puppet, most notably having hair that's closer to pink than magenta. This is most likely a prototype puppet.
  • According to TV Passport and Google's listings for the show, episode 27 was supposed to be comprised of "Piano Problem" and "Stanley's One-Dragon Show", and episode 28 would've consisted of "Cheesy Con" and "Bongo-lympics". In the actual episodes proper, "Piano Problem" would be paired with "Bongo-lympics" and "Stanley's One-Dragon Show" would be paired with "Cheesy Con".
  • According to his interview on the DJ Bob Show, Frankie Cordero originally auditioned for the roles of both Purple Panda and Bob Dog. He ended up only bringing on his Panda since he didn't like his Bob Dog.
  • Haley Jenkins auditioned for Donkey and Duck Duck, but only got called back for Donkey.
  • Early press releases for the show mention two episode plots that were planned for season 1, but were not used: one about Bob Dog playing a large game of kickball with his friends, and one where Duck Duck hosts a Book-A-Palooza festival. This may have been due to the pandemic impacting the show's production. The Season 2 episode "Trolley Visits Someplace Else" does have Bob Dog mention playing a big kickball game at the party, likely as a reference to this scrapped episode.
  • The idea of having voice actors for the puppets was considered and used for the pilot, but it was not used for the final show. Donkey was puppeteered by David Rudman and voiced by Emily Lynne Berthold
  • Alice Dinnean was considered for the role of Donkey, but she had other commitments and was unable to make the cut. She would later play Mousy in the episode "Mousy Hodie".
