Ned Hall, is a superhero, Switch, and is following in the footsteps of his mother. He inherited teleportation powers from her. She was once one of the greatest superheroes around and worked in a team with her brother, until mysteriously vanishing one day. Ned's mother was not the only powerful superhuman and far from either the first or the last, so Ned has to take it upon himself to stop super criminals the police aren't equipped to take on. He lacks a secret identity and lives a life not unlike that of a celebrity. Having basically been born into this job, he isn't too fond of it. Things begin to drastically change for Ned after his father unveils a new superpower suppressing technology and he befriends a young man named Jude.

- Freudian Excuse: Lynette lost her family when Pulse, in an attempt to protect people from the debris of a burning building, inadvertently destabilized the building and caused a lot more of it to collapse on escaping civilians.

- Missing Mom: Ned's mother disappeared one day. His family thought her teleportation powers malfunctioned and assumed she'd wound up in some random part of the world, but after years of searching and no leads, she's been assumed dead.
- Muggle Best Friend: Early in the comic, Ned befriends Jude by pretending to know him in order to get away from a fan. Jude has no powers or seems to not have any and the two hang out regularly.
- My Greatest Failure: Jude/Pulse was trying to rescue some people from a collapsing building, but when trying to blast some falling debris away from some escaping people, he destabilized the building even further and a bunch of innocents wound up dying. He went into retirement afterwards.

- Resigned to the Call: Ned isn't too enthusiastic about being a hero. He was a big fan of a previous hero specifically because he knew that said hero would take the pressure off of him to follow in his mother's footsteps, but he wounded up vanishing too. At the same time, Ned still puts on his mask and saves people when the police need help.
- Screw This, I'm Outta Here: Rush backs out from Ringer's plan when he learned that kidnapping is involved.
- What the Hell, Hero?:
- Jude delivers a serious one to Ned when he sees that Ned isn't too careful when fighting crime.
- Ned gives one to his father upon learning that the latter implanted a chip in his head.
