Webcomic / Kate The Great

Go To

Her parents don't find this strange at all.

Kate the Great is a webcomic with a retro art style about a young girl with a big imagination. Kate’s friends (a gargoyle, a dragon, a unicorn, and a griffin) go with her on a series of adventures – some in the real world, others in worlds she probably invents. Some strips are about her causing mischief in the real world, such as her failed attempt to juggle (using eggs). Others involve her imagination. Her family seems totally aware of her "imaginary" friends. It's loosely a cross between Dennis the Menace (US) and Calvin and Hobbes.

The comic can be viewed here. Also has an official deviantART page.

This comic contains examples of:

  • Imaginary Friend: It's ambiguous whether or not the gargoyle, dragon, unicorn and griffin are imaginary. Kate's parents never acknowledge their existence.
  • Maybe Magic, Maybe Mundane: So far, it's not determined if Kate's friends are real, and if she's actually going on any adventures with them or merely pretending to.
  • Retraux: The art style is very old-fashioned, and yet it was created in 2013.
