The Bad Mario GIF is an animated GIF of Mario hitting a question mark block, stomping on a Goomba, and collecting a Super Mushroom. However, something is off about... well, everything.
This GIF provides #retro examples of:
- Anachronism Stew: The sprites for Mario and the Goomba were taken from Super Mario Bros., the mushroom is from Super Mario Bros. 3, and the pipe and ground are pulled from the "New" subseries. All that isn't even mentioning the ? Block that switches from SMB1 to "New" style after being hit.
- Use Your Head: Mario doesn't change sprites to lift his fist into the air.
- Goomba Stomp: The Trope Namer falls victim to this technique as Mario stomps it in second 3 of the GIF.
- Goomba Springboard: Averted. Mario gains no extra height from stomping the Goomba - in fact, he crushes it so hard that he touches the ground and jumps again, leaving a corpse so flat you can't even see it.
