Spy Hunter II is the sequel to Spy Hunter (1983), released for arcades on March 1987 without any ports made by Midway Games (back then as Bally Midway). However, George Gomez has been critical to BM as the game was made without his input.

While it has similar gameplay to the first game, it has a 3D view behind the car.

The game was later included in Midway Arcade Treasures 2 and in the 2012 compilation Midway Arcade Origins.

Spy Hunter II provides examples of:

  • Continuing is Painful: One of the reasons why Spy Hunter II is so extremely hard is that your car will power-down every time you die. This means that you can become so weak from constantly failing at a boss battle that the game becomes nearly unwinnable.
  • Nintendo Hard: Spy Hunter II is extremely unforgiving to players that aren't good at avoiding damage.
