Welcome, Espire agent.

Espire 1: VR Operative is a VR-exclusive stealth video game developed by Digital Lode and published by Tripwire Interactive, released for all major VR headsets in 2019, including the Valve Index, Oculus Rift, HTC Vive, and Oculus Quest.

As the player, you assume the role of an Espire Agent commandeering an Espire unit, a humanoid robotic shell in order to find out more about why the facility that housed the Espire project is under seige.

Tropes Accepted: Countdown Timer Initiated.

  • All for Nothing: The operation fails.
  • Bloodless Carnage: Zigzagged. Should you play on PC, it's averted, with blood splatters on the walls. However, on the Quest and Quest 2 versions, there's no blood whatsoever.
  • Boom, Headshot!: Zigzagged. Enemies with helmets take multiple headshots to die, whilst helmetless enemies only take one. However, should you decide to kill an unconscious enemy, it takes many, many more shots to the head to kill them.
  • Downer Ending: Upon finally establishing the link to the IFA, your Espire unit loses all offense abilities and you're left helpless as the connection is cut, your Espire unit is snatched for research by Copperhead, and the whole operation is compromised. Your team panics and tells you to run, aaaand... Roll credits.
  • Set Right What Once Went Wrong: The Espire team hopes that, by succeeding in the operation, they can prove that the Espire program is a viable use of time and money after the program was shut down prior to the game's beginning.
  • 20 Minutes into the Future: The game takes place in 2029.
