A Boundless Universe of Fantasy

Chimeraland is a Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game developed and published by Level Infinite (formerly PROXIMA BETA), a subsidiary of Tencent. It is available on iOS, Android, and PC with cross-play support. It launched in Southeast Asia on January 6, 2022, with the rest of the world to follow seven months later on July 15.

It is an open world sandbox MMO that allows players to have a great amount of freedom in how they tackle their approach in living within its world, which consists of four main continents: Southmount, Eastmount, and Westmount are the continents where the players have their everyday lives, and Centralmount which acts as a PvP-focused domain for those who want to go against each other. In addition, players with enough capabilities can also gain access and explore the Night Sky, which is essentially outer space, filled with worlds beyond the four continents.

The world also contains beasts and monsters from the "Classic of Mountains and Seas", a piece of ancient Chinese literature that's essentially a bestiary of monsters. These monsters can be tamed by the players, and even combine two of them to create "Chimeras", a player's own personal pet.

Chimeraland provides examples of:

  • Beast Men: The game has fourteen races, one being normal humans, and the other thirteen containing select races like Bird People, Cat Folk, Cthulhumanoid, Lizard Folk, and many others.
  • Border Patrol: If a player ends up in a continent other than their starting one without following proper protocol, they become wanted once they modify something within the land such as mine minerals without permission, then a number of monsters that act as security will try to eliminate them to send them back to their home spawn.
  • Hybrid Monster: Players can combine monsters that they've tamed into one with a set chance of it succeeding, which is what the "Chimera" in the title refers to.
  • Schizo Tech: The world is set in an ancient Chinese-inspired fantasy world, but you can build guns, arcade machines, and the world itself is dotted with empty rocket launchpads that can propel you out into space if you gather materials to build them. These are among a select few instances.
  • Wide-Open Sandbox: The game boasts a 4-thousand square kilometer world spanning four continents, full of beasts to capture and defeat, ruins to see, land to build on, and that doesn't include an explorable outer space once players have the necessary mount to be able to fly out of the known world.
  • Wuxia: Chimeraland is, at its core, a Chinese fantasy story with anthropomorphic races alongside humans living in a world full of Chinese monsters.
