Bye Sweet Carole is an upcoming indie-horror/thriller/adventure game created by Chris Darril (Remothered).
Sometime in the 1900s, young Lana Benton finds herself pursued by a terrifying old man named Mr. Kyn, also known as Old Hat. While trying to get away from him, Lana tumbles into an enchanted garden, populated by horrifying creatures. After finding a series of letters written by a mysterious "French", Lana decides to investigate further and follow the footsteps of a girl called Carole Simmons, who disappeared from the nineteenth century orphanage Bunny Hall. In the present, said orphanage is beset by a colony of wild rabbits, who are able to open a portal to the mysterious world of Corolla.
The game was developed by Little Sewing Machine Studios and Meangrip Studios and published by Just For Games. An official reveal trailer
was released on Youtube in June, 9th, 2023. The first gameplay reveal trailer was shown at Gamescom 2023. The game is planned to come out sometime in 2024 and will be available for Playstation 4 and Playstation 5. Click here to get to the official Steam page.
Bye Sweet Carole contains examples of:
- Animal Motif: Bunnies. In the reveal trailer, Old Hat attacks Lana by summoning a bunch of demonic-looking bunnies, Lana in the gameplay trailer and the animated title sequence demonstrates the ability to turn into a bunny and at the center of the story is the orphanage Bunny Hall, which, according to the description on Steam, has been infested by a colony of wild rabbits.
- Dark Is Evil: Old Hat in the trailers wears a dark top hat and overcoat and is continuously menacing Lana. In the gameplay reveal trailer he's also shown to have Abnormal Limb Rotation Range and seems to be behind the disappearance of several girls at the orphanage, not just Carole.
- I Will Find You: According to the Steam description and the reveal trailer, Lana's main goal in the game will be to find a girl called Carole who has mysteriously disappeared.
- Kick the Dog: In the gameplay demo, Old Hat pretends to be one of Lana's friends, Vicky, begging her to not leave. Only to then reveal his true form and mocking Lana for thinking Vicky would ask her of all people for help.
- Killer Rabbit: In the gameplay trailer, Lana has to avoid a human-sized anthropomorphic rabbit-cook who flies into a rage when she spots Lana.
