Lucius Tarquinius Superbus, also known as Tarquin the Proud, was the seventh and final legendary king of Rome. He is believed to have ruled from around 534 BC to 509 BC. Tarquinius Superbus is often seen as a tyrannical and despotic ruler, whose actions eventually led to the downfall of the Roman monarchy and the establishment of The Roman Republic.
Tarquinius Superbus came to power through a violent coup, orchestrated by himself and his wife, Tullia, who was the daughter of the previous king, Servius Tullius. This coup led to the assassination of Servius Tullius and marked the beginning of Tarquinius Superbus's tyrannical rule.
Tarquinius Superbus is known for his harsh and oppressive rule. He is believed to have ignored established laws, ruled with an iron fist, and relied on fear and force to maintain his authority.
Tarquinius Superbus's rule became increasingly unpopular, and his actions, including the rape of Lucretia, led to a growing resentment among the Roman aristocracy. This eventually led to a revolt and his expulsion from Rome in 509 BC. This event marked the end of the Roman monarchy and the establishment of the Roman Republic.
