Trivia / Until the End of the World

Go To

  • Box Office Bomb: Budget: 23 million dollars. Box office? 829,625 dollars.
  • Breakaway Pop Hit: Talking Heads' "Sax and Violins", from the soundtrack, is better-remembered than the film itself.
  • Multi-Disc Work: The director’s cut release by The Criterion Collection came on 3 discs on DVD, and 2 discs on Blu-Ray.
  • No Export for You: The director's cut has never been released in North America (due to Warner Bros. refusing to license the rights to another company). Anchor Bay was set to release this version in 2005 (as part of a Wim Wenders set) but said issues led to the release being canceled.
  • Technology Marches On: Partially averted, as GPS is common in automobiles, and computers (from desktops and laptops to handheld microcomputers the size of a wallet), digital technology is shown to connect people all over the world. However, everybody still uses public telephones (granted they take credit cards and have a video screen, and there is also a system called "video fax"), and nobody in the movie seems to own a cell phone. Another amusing detail in the movie is what media replaces audio cassette tapes in the year 1999. Instead of CDs or MP3 players, music files are stored on credit cards.
