* TechnologyMarchesOn: Partially averted, as GPS is common in automobiles, and computers (from desktops and laptops to handheld microcomputers the size of a wallet), digital technology is shown to connect people all over the world. However, everybody still uses public telephones (granted they take credit cards and have a video screen, and there is also a system called "video fax"), and nobody in the movie seems to own a cell phone. Another amusing detail in the movie is what media replaces audio cassette tapes in the year 1999. Instead of [=CDs=] or [=MP3=] players, music files are stored on credit cards.

* NoExportForYou: The director's cut has never been released in North America (due to Warner Bros. refusing to license the rights to another company). Anchor Bay was set to release this version in 2005 (as part of a Wim Wenders set) but said issues led to the release being canceled.
