Trivia / Uncle Tupelo

Go To

  • Breakup Breakout: Jay Farrar went on to achieve moderate success with Son Volt, while Jeff Tweedy achieved more success than Son Volt or Uncle Tupelo with his follow-up band, Wilco.
  • Creator Backlash: The members later stated that they were unhappy with the production on Still Feel Gone.
  • Music Is Politics: Their first label, Rockville Records, attempted to force the band to change their style to imitate the burgeoning Grunge movement, and the label also withheld royalties from the group. Jay Farrar and Jeff Tweedy would later sue Rockville CEO Barry Tenenbaum over the unpaid royalties, and they won back the rights to their first three albums.
  • Production Posse: Their first two albums were produced by Paul Q. Kolderie and Sean Slade, chosen because they had previously engineered Dinosaur Jr.'s third album, Bug.
  • Short-Lived, Big Impact: The band only released four albums over the span of four years, but they became regarded as one of the most influential bands of the alt-country scene, and they launched the careers of two of the 90s' most well-regarded songwriters.
  • Writer Revolt: The band was pressured to imitate grunge bands like Nirvana to achieve major-label success. Instead, they chose to make their third album, March 16-20, 1992, an entirely acoustic folk album.
