Trivia / Ty Herndon

Go To

  • Breakup Breakout: From the Tennessee River Boys.
  • Chart Displacement: Averted on Hot Country Songs, but played straight on the Hot 100. His only top-40 hit there is not "What Mattered Most", but rather "It Must Be Love".
  • Creator Breakdown: In 2002, he had problems with weight gain, drug addiction, and debt. These were among the factors that sidelined him for almost five years.
  • Follow-Up Failure: "In Your Face", the fourth single off What Mattered Most, stalled out at #63.
  • Missing Episode: His fifth Epic Records album never materialized due to a combination of Creator Breakdown and failure of the lead single on the charts. According to an interview with CMT, the video for said lead single "Heather's Wall" was supposed to be part of a trilogy that would also include the songs "I'd Move Heaven and Earth for You" and "Stones". While the former song appeared on a Greatest Hits Album in 2002, "Stones" never materialized until a re-recording in 2011 (although Tracy Lawrence recorded a version in 2004).
  • One-Hit Wonder: Not Ty himself, obviously, but "Heart Half Empty" duet partner Stephanie Bentley is. However, she had more success as a songwriter.
  • Uncredited Role: Sons of the Desert were not credited for their call-and-response vocals on "It Must Be Love", likely because they were involved in a label dispute at the time.
