• What Could Have Been: Before settling on Alex Trebek for the Man In Black who implausibly resembled a celebrity, one of the possibilities considered by writer Darin Morgan was Johnny Cash. Morgan also considered Salman Rushdie and Steven Spielberg, but concluded that the former was too obscure and the latter too famous, and that Trebek had just the right level of fame for the cameo.
• You Look Familiar: Detective "Bleeping" Manners (played by Larry Musser) was Sheriff John Oakes in "Die Hand die verletzt". He would later appear in two more episodes. Alex Diakun (as Dr. Fingers) had been in two episodes before this one (both also written by Darin Morgan). He would later reappear on the Morgan-scripted "The Lost Art of Forehead Sweat".
