• Keep It Foreign: The French club that Lisa hangs out with is changed to an "English club" in the European French version. Likewise, every instance of Lisa and the rest of the group switching from English to Gratuitous French to insult Bart is reversed, with the original French sayings being directly translated into English.
• Recycled Script: Bart bonding with Ned as a Parental Substitute for Homer was a subplot in The Simpsons Movie, which hit several of the same beats, such as the two going on a fishing trip together. The storyline about Homer finding another kid to conduct Operation: Jealousy with in a similar situation was used in "Brother From the Same Planet," right down to the Pair the Spares conclusion. Nelson's role in the episode also resembles his role in "Sleeping With the Enemy," in which Marge bonds with him upon finding that her kids are outgrowing the need to spend a lot of time with her—complete with a similar joke about Nelson being offered a dentist appointment and expressing surprise that there's such a thing as a "doctor for your teeth."
