Trivia / The Simpsons S13 E6 "She of Little Faith"

Go To

  • Distanced from Current Events: Originally, there was supposed to be a scene where an Arab man named Hassan Jay Salam is arrested for shooting the rocket into the church because the rocket has his initials on it (which are also Homer's initials), but, because of the 9/11 attacks and fear of backlash from Arab viewers, the producers had the scene cut. The DVD commentary talks about the missing scene, and it is included on the deleted scenes reel on the DVD.
  • Reality Subtext: Bart writes "I do not have a cereal named after me." for the chalkboard gag. At the time, he did: "Bart Simpson Peanut Butter Chocolate Crunch".
  • Recycled Script: The episode is essentially "Lisa the Vegetarian" with Marge replacing Homer as the parent who clashes with Lisa over her new belief system, with Lisa learning a similar lesson: that it's possible to stand firm in your own beliefs without attempting to change others. Also, as in "Lisa the Vegetarian," the episode's guest star (Paul McCartney in the former, Richard Gere here) serves as a Real Life representative of Lisa's new philosophy, and in both episodes the guest star insisted as a condition of his appearance that the belief not be subject to a Snap Back, hence why Lisa remains a Buddhist to this day, just as she remained a vegetarian.
  • Wag the Director: Richard Gere, a practicing Buddhist, insisted as a condition of his guest appearance that Lisa's conversion to Buddhism be a permanent one, and that she say "Free Tibet", the liberation of Tibet being a pet cause of his. Gere was the one to say "Free Tibet," but Lisa agrees with his sentiments in this episode and many others.
