Trivia / The Sea Beyond

Go To

  • Actor-Shared Background: Alina is an Ukrainian refugee, just like her actress Yeva Sai.
  • …But I Play One on TV: Since the beginning of the show, Serena De Ferrari has received many insults, both online and in real life, just for playing the evil and hateable character Viola. According to Serena, random strangers on the street (mostly teenagers) wish death on her and call her a "bitch", treating her as she really was like Viola.
  • Cast the Runner-Up: Antonio Orefice (later cast as Totò) originally auditioned for the role of Gianni "Cardiotrap", and conversely Domenico Cuomo (later cast as Gianni/"Cardiotrap") auditioned for the role of Totò. It's worth noting that the two characters are pretty much the opposite of each other.
  • Dawson Casting: All the inmates in the juvenile prison are supposed to be under 18 years old, but most of the actors were already in their 20's since the beginning. Averted with Gianni's actor Domenico Cuomo (who was only 16 when the show started), Salvatore's actor Filippo Soave (a 16-year-old playing a 15-year-old, and one of the youngest looking members of the cast), and Kubra's actress Kyshan Wilson (who was 17 when she's introduced on the show). Downplayed with Gemma's actress Serena Codato (who was 18).
  • Fake Nationality:
    • Ukrainian actor Artem Tkachuk playing Italian character Pino Pagano. However, Artem actually grew up in Naples, despite being born in Ukraine.
    • Half-French actor Nicolas Maupas playing Italian character Filippo Ferrari. However, he was born in Milan just like his character.
  • The Other Darrin: Gemma's abusive boyfriend Fabio is played by Stefano Rossi Giordani in season 1, and by Alessio Del Mastro in season 2.
  • Real-Life Relative: Gaetano and his father are played by Nicolò Galasso and his real-life father Domenico Galasso.
    • The kid who plays Demyan, Alina's brother, is Pino's actor Artem Tkachuk's brother in real life.
