• Died During Production: Douglas Adams died halfway through writing this book.
• Dolled-Up Installment: Adams wasn't happy with how this book was turning out and was seriously considering rewriting it as a The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy novel.
• Working Title: The Editor's Note at the start said varying titles amongst Adams' notes were; A Spoon Too Short, The Old Salmon and LA/Rhino/Ranting Manor.
