Trivia / The Next Karate Kid

Go To

  • B-Team Sequel: With the exception of Pat Morita and Bill Conti, Ralph Macchio (the star of the first three films), director John G. Avildsen and writer Robert Mark Kamen had no involvement in this film.
  • Box Office Bomb: Budget: $12,000,000. Box office: $8,751,228. Still sensible for its time.
  • Franchise Killer: The film was poorly received by fans and critics, and made less money at the box office than The Karate Kid Part III, putting the series on ice until the release of The Karate Kid (2010). Or if you're strictly focusing on movies that directly follow characters from the original film series, Cobra Kai.
  • Star-Making Role: Despite the film itself being classed as less than stellar, Hilary Swank's role as Julie is considered to be her breakout role in the acting industry.
  • Working Title: Young Americans and Kids in America.
