• Queer Character, Queer Actor: Director Clea DuVall who is a lesbian, also plays Jessie who is also a lesbian.
• Written-In Infirmity: Ruby appears with a broken leg and walking on crutches because her actress, Cobie Smulders, actually broke her leg a day before shooting was scheduled to begin and had to walk on crutches. DuVall, rather than recast the role (especially at such a late stage), decided to just adapt it into the script.
