Trivia / The Halo Graphic Novel

Go To

  • Development Gag: Several of the designs in Second Sunrise Over New Mombasa are based on unused Concept Art from Halo: Combat Evolved.
  • So My Kids Can Watch: The semi-retired MÅ“bius was inspired to contribute to this book because his son was a fan of Halo.
  • Troubled Production: There was a lot of bad blood behind the scenes between Microsoft's Franchise Division and Bungie.note  Eric Trautmann, editor of Halo: The Fall of Reach, put together a team that wrote a Halo comic as a pitch to Bungie, but art director Lorraine McLees hated it and called it "opening a Christmas present and [finding] a lump of coal". After initial friction at editing it, McLees and Pete Parsons told Trautmann they wanted the comic to be written by Joe Kubert and Alan Moore, Trautmann protesting that the two were so legendary and self-employed that hiring them would be nearly impossible. McLees and her husband ended producing the comic themselves with the help of Maria Carbado, who was able to get in contact with the high-profile comic artists they were seeking (though not Moore or Kubert). The comic was then financed by Bungie without Microsoft.
  • What Could Have Been: Trautmann's original pitched comic was written by John Ney Rieber and Adi Granov, the former who was attached to the 2000s Captain America reboot and the latter who went on to illustrate Iron Man: Extremis and Concept Art for the Iron Man movie.
