• Creator Backlash: The short ended up becoming an instant flop, due to the plot's pacing and Midas ending up too unsympathetic. This is the reason why Walt stopped directing cartoons in favor of becoming a producer. Walt was reportedly so irked when the production was brought up to him in conversation that he reminded his staff never to speak of it again.
• Creator Killer: Of a sort. While it fortunately didn't kill Walt Disney's career entirely, the short's poor reception would cause him to stop directing cartoons altogether, becoming a producer instead.
