- California Doubling: The miniseries is set in Germany, and was shot in the Czech Republic.
- Completely Different Title: The French title of the miniseries is Le temps des cerises (The Time of Cherries) instead of The Cherry Queen per the German meaning. This is probably a Shout-Out to the (completely unrelated, apart from the fruit) 1866 French song "Le temps des cerises".
- Dawson Casting:
- Johanna Wokalek, then-29, played Ruth from her twenties to her fifties over a period of time spanning from 1913 to 1946.
- So did the actresses who play Ruth's sisters, who remained unchanged even when the characters aged.
- Fake Nationality: Two out of three of the German Goldfisch sisters were not played by German actresses:
- French actress of Sicilian descent Delphine Sérina as the older sister, Gretchen.
- Another French actress, Clémence Boué, as Käthe, the younger sister.
- Self-Adaptation: Justus Pfaue wrote both the novel the miniseries is based off and the script of the miniseries.
