• California Doubling: Averted sometimes, but ususally played straight.
• Channel Hop: Quite a few shows moved to other networks- Family Matters and Step By Step to CBS, Getting By to NBC, Sabrina and Sister, Sister to The WB, and Clueless and The Hugeleys to UPN.
• Follow the Leader: ABC attempted several other themed programming blocks-The Hump, MCTV on Saturday mornings and I Love Saturday Night- to piggyback on the success of TGIF; all failed (and Perfect Strangers ended up getting killed when it was moved to Saturdays to be the centerpiece of that block).
  • Also, the CBS equivalent, the CBS Block Party, which picked up Family Matters and Step by Step after ABC cancelled them; it was an instant flop.
• Screwed by the Network: Warner Bros. realized that Disney's purchase of ABC meant the end of their relationship (as Disney began to refocus ABC towards adults), so they terminated their stake in the block, picked up Family Matters and Step By Step and fled to CBS, which promptly teamed up with WB and Miller-Boyett to create the network's own TGIF competitor dubbed the CBS Block Party, which failed hard.
