  • First Appearance: Of Jim Moriarty.
  • Real-Life Relative: The voice of the little boy is provided by Louis Moffat, son of Steven Moffat and producer Sue Vertue, who played little Sherlock on the later episodes.
  • Recycled Set: According to the episode commentary, Sarah’s flat was filmed in a four-storey house in Cardiff which was used for several locations, including Westie’s flat.
  • Translation Correction: The grammatically-challenged British prisoner in Belarus (complaining that he's going to get "hung"; Sherlock corrects it to "hanged") uses correct grammar in this last instance in the German dub, but is then corrected by Sherlock that he's going to get shot instead, which is the actual Belarusian execution method.
  • Voice-Only Cameo: Peter Davison provides the voice-over at the planetarium.
  • Word of God: According to the episode commentary, the smiley face on the wall of 221B Baker street is painted by the same light yellow paint used by the Black Lotus Tong.
