Trivia / Red Dwarf Season I "Waiting for God"

Go To

  • Actor-Inspired Element: It was Craig Charles idea of Lister pressing his lips against the glass window in the observation room and running his lips down the glass window, leaving behind a trail of dribble, as he falls down, which he improvised during rehearsals and Rob Grant and Doug Naylor decided to write it into the script.
  • Creator Backlash: Rob Grant named this as his least favourite episode because it was bogged down in the mythology. Doug Naylor isn't too fond of it, either.
  • Deleted Scene: Extended scenes are available for viewing on the DVD. These include Lister and Rimmer in the sleeping quarters discussing philosophy and the meaning of life (with Lister saying it to "be nice"); and Rimmer's firm belief (and Lister's disbelief) in aliens.
  • Edited for Syndication: In a 2012 repeat, Rimmer shouting "Bastard!" at Lister was cut.
  • Money, Dear Boy: Noel Coleman, who played the cat priest, didn't particularly like or even understand the script, and only took the role because it paid pretty well for something that only required one day's work and had him sitting in a chair most of the time.
  • Similarly Named Works: This episode shares its title with the sitcom Waiting for God. This episode is the first episode on the original three-episode video compilation "Series 1-Byte 2". But to avoid confusion, the title on the box is "Confidence and Paranoia", the second episode shown on the tape, to prevent fans of the other show from making an incorrect purchase.
