- Executive Meddling: The game was originally called "Wasteland Kings", but was renamed upon request from the guys behind the Wasteland remake. This forced the players who originally owned Wasteland Kings (from the Mojam Humble Bundle) to pay for the full version of Nuclear Throne, on the basis that they are two entirely different games.
- Promoted Fanboy:
- After Justin Chan made some impressive fanart for the game, Vlambeer hired him to do official art for future updates.
- For Update 99, Vlambeer pulled in additional coding help from YellowAfterLife, creator of the Nuclear Throne Together mod. U99 included bugfixes that originated from the mod as well.
- Shrug of God: Some of the backstory elements are unclear, mainly due to Rami and JW being unable to agree on what's canon

- Inverted - the game was, originally, Gun Godz, but the games eventually split - Gun Godz becoming a tribute to gangsta rap and Doom-style FPS games starring Yung Venuz, while this became... uh... Nuclear Throne.
- Chicken's original active was a Bullet Time, which ended up being replaced by the weapon throwing active. Her original B skin unlock condition was also going to be for her to defeat a certain boss, which was either taken by a different character or was unimplemented.
- Word of God: Since the only source of lore in-game are the loading screens, the creators exposit the game's backstory by outside means.
