Trivia / Ms. Marvel (2014)

• Development Gag: According to G. Willow Wilson, when she was first developing Kamala, she considered making her an Arab-American teen from Dearborn, Michigan before settling on a Jersey City Desi girl. Years later, the comic would introduce an Arab-American hero from Dearborn, Fadi Fadlallah / Amulet.
• Promoted Fanboy: Amulet was designed by artist Sara Alfageeh, who has been inspired to learn drawing after reading Ms. Marvel and first made the news in comics circles when she proposed redesigns of an outfit worn by another Muslim superhero, X-Men member Dust.
• What Could Have Been:
  • Early on, G. Willow Wilson considered making Kamala Arab-American instead of South Asian, and making Dearborn, Michigan her hometown. She decided on Jersey City because it would put Kamala in closer proximity to the epicenter of the Marvel Universe in Manhattan.
  • Early ideas for the story were to have Kamala be a Reed Richards fangirl and use codename Ms. Fantastic. This was dropped when they realized making her a direct Legacy Character will help her character longevity and that the Ms. Marvel name was up for grabs.
  • In 2022 it was revealed that G. Willow Wilson considered making Kamala a Mutant before making her an Inhuman instead, possibly due to Executive Meddling. The Mutant origin would eventually be used for Kamala's Marvel Cinematic Universe counterpart, as well as her being Retconned as an Inhuman/Mutant hybrid in the comics.
• Write What You Know: The adventures of Kamala Khan, a Muslim, fanfic-writing girl from New Jersey, is written by G. Willow Wilson, a Muslim convert/revert^note Islam holds that all people are born Muslim, so converts are actually reverting to their former faith., female comic book writer from New Jersey, and Saladin Ahmed, a Muslim writer.
